Director & Co Founder
Tao Wang is Professor of Advanced Opto-electronics, Director of the Centre for GaN Materials and Devices and co-Director of the Joint Research Centre for Wide-bandgap Optoelectronics. He received his Ph.D from Universität Würzburg in Germany. His teaching and research interests are in the areas of III-nitride and III-As/Sb semiconductors, low-dimensional quantum systems, nanophotonics, LEDs, lasers, solar energy devices, hybrid III-nitrides/organic optoelectronics, integration of photonics & electronics. So far, he has ~450 publications including 5 book chapters, >220 journal papers and >220 conference papers/presentations. He holds 20 patents. He started III-nitride research in the world-leading III-nitride team at the University of Tokushima in Japan in 1997, and then worked at Nitride Semiconductor Ltd. in Tokushima as the R&D director from 2000 to 2002. He joined the University of Sheffield in August 2002. He was awarded EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship in 2005. He is regularly involved in organising international conferences including the Chair of 16th International Symposium on the Science and Technology of Lighting in 2018 and the Chair of 2012 Summer School on III-nitrides.
